Community Service

My name is August Elizabeth Glenn, daughter of two middle class parents. If
there is one thing I know it is that education is important. Because neither
of my parents attended college, I see first hand the deference that a good
education makes. Attending a university is something that is very important
to me as well as my parents. My parents push me because they want me to have
the opportunities that they never had. Being the first person in my family
to attend and graduate from college would be nothing less than an honor for
me. My parents have worked hard to make it where they are today; this is why
they have inspired me to model my life after theirs with good moral values
and a strong sense of family.
I am an average student going to a very academic based school but I cannot
imagine going anywhere else. At the beginning of my freshman year the class
was told there would be forty hours of community service that had to be
completed each year. Upon hearing this I had no clue how I would ever manage
to complete all of the required hours. However, as the years go by the time
seems shorter and I am able to complete above and beyond the minimum number
of hours. Community service is something that I have really come to enjoy
and I believe my experience with community service will be a great
contribution to any campus.
